Scripture identifies Deborah as the wife of Lapidoth. The Hebrew word lappid carries the meaning of a torch, flame, or burning light, creating a striking picture alongside Deborah’s life and calling. She was a woman who heard the voice of God, stood boldly in her appointed place, and called others to arise in faith and obedience.

Throughout Scripture, a torch carries imagery of light, revelation, and something that burns brightly in the darkness:

“For Zion’s sake I will not keep silent… until her righteousness shines like a bright light, her salvation like a blazing torch.”
—Isaiah 62:1
