Dorcas was a business woman in the city of Joppa. She was known for her excellence as a seamstress and her generosity. Lydia the woman who sews purple cloth mentioned in the scriptures, knew Dorcas. Acts 16:12-15, 40; Philippians 1:1-10
Acts 9:36 & 39 Now there was in Joppa a disciple named Tabitha, which, translated, means Dorcas. She was full of good works and acts of charity. Then Peter arose and went with them. When he was come, they brought him into the upper chamber: and all the widows stood by him weeping, and showing the coats and garments which Dorcas made, while she was with them.
